New Delhi, Apr 2 (PTI) AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday wrote to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, alleging a “systematic crackdown” on party workers ahead of local body polls and seeking a meeting to discuss the issue.
Citing 145 FIRs and more than 160 arrests in the last three months, Kejriwal claimed that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers were being targeted by the BJP-led state government.
“For the first time, people have found a strong and credible option in the AAP. People know that the AAP is a fearless, honest, patriotic party of educated individuals that will never compromise with the BJP,” Kejriwal said in the letter.
“This is why the AAP’s popularity in Gujarat has grown rapidly in recent years, and it is now widely discussed that the BJP is on its way out and an AAP government is on its way in,” the former Delhi chief minister said.
Kejriwal accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to weaken the AAP by arresting most of its leaders and workers in a bid to “wipe out” the party.
“Under this conspiracy, in the last three months alone, 145 FIRs have been filed against AAP workers in Gujarat, and more than 160 workers have been arrested by the BJP government,” Kejriwal said in the letter.
He claimed that there was a plan to arrest 10,000 AAP workers in the coming days.
“It is clear that this conspiracy to eliminate the AAP in Gujarat is being orchestrated at the highest level. There are also reports that in the coming days, there is a plan to arrest 10,000 karyakartas so that the AAP cannot even field candidates in local body elections,” he added.
Kejriwal also alleged that police personnel were visiting the homes of AAP leaders and workers and threatening them to leave Gujarat or face serious consequences. PTI SSM RHL
