New Delhi, Apr 14 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday attacked former CM Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of questioning democratic institutions and lacking accountability.
“Today, Delhi and the country are moving together. I was noticing that former Delhi chief minister Kejriwal has become a lawyer. He goes to court to present his defences,” Gupta said in a public address.
She further alleged that Kejriwal has a history of targeting key institutions.
“The person who has always questioned all democratic institutions, who has targeted the CBI, ED, Election Commission of India, the prime minister, the lieutenant governor, and even the judiciary whenever they spoke against him,” she said.
Continuing with her attack, she said, “Today, Kejriwal is questioning the judiciary. Whenever decisions were in his favour, he praised these institutions, but now he has started questioning the judiciary again. I want to ask, what fear is troubling him that he is raising fingers at such strong pillars of democracy.” In response, the Aam Aadmi Party said that Kejriwal exercised his constitutional right by appearing before the court and seeking the recusal of Justice Swarn Kanta Sharma in the Delhi liquor policy case.
“Just two days ago, on a media platform, the Delhi chief minister made an extremely objectionable remark about a lower court judge, saying that judgments are delivered through ‘setting’,” AAP’s Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj said.
Bharadwaj urged the Chief Justice of India to take suo motu cognisance and initiate contempt proceedings against CM Gupta for her remark.
Gupta further said, “The people of Delhi and the country are watching this behaviour. The nation has faith in the judiciary, and justice will prevail.” She added that AAP has failed the public.
