Kolkata, Apr 25 (PTI) Kolkata Police on Saturday appointed new officers-in-charge (OCs) for Kalighat and Alipore police stations, both located in the high-profile Bhabanipur assembly constituency, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting against Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP.
According to an official note signed by Police Commissioner Ajay Nand, the transfers were made in compliance with directives issued by the Chief Electoral Officer.
Bhabanipur, one of the battleground seats in the West Bengal elections, will vote in the second phase on April 29.
Special Branch Inspector Goutam Das has been posted as the new OC of Kalighat police station, while South Division Inspector Subrata Pandey has been given the responsibility of Alipore police station, the note said.
Special Branch Inspector Uttam Kumar Paik has also been posted as Additional OC of Kalighat police station.
Meanwhile, Inspector Chameli Mukherjee, who was serving as Additional OC of Alipore police station, has been transferred as OC of Ultadanga women’s police station.
“Such administrative reshuffles are routinely undertaken by the Election Commission to ensure neutrality and maintain law and order during the poll process,” an official said.
West Bengal voted in the first phase of the assembly elections on April 23, while counting of votes will take place on May 4. PTI SUS SOM
