Ranchi, Apr 2 (PTI) A sub-adult elephant, which fell into a 45-foot-deep well in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, was rescued after a three-hour operation on Thursday, a forest department official said.
The pachyderm, which was a part of a herd of four elephants, fell into the well around 1 am at Saryad village in Bundu forest range, he said.
“We were informed about the incident around 5 am. A rescue team was immediately rushed to the area. But, the rescue operation started at 8 am due to some objections raised by the well owner,” Sonahatu forest in-charge Supriyan Tuti told PTI.
“Water was poured into the well for up to 15 feet and a passage was created with the help of an earth mover. Around 11 am, the elephant was brought out of the well,” Tuti said.
The jumbo was reunited with its herd at Tamar block in Ranchi, he added. PTI SAN RBT
