New Delhi: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL), owned by former MP Naveen Jindal, has donated Rs 2 crore to the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, to strengthen the state’s fight against Covid-19.
Chhattisgarh currently has 575 active Covid-19 cases. It has so far recorded 13 deaths since the pandemic struck, while 2,173 patients have recovered.
The cheque was presented to Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at the bhoomi pujan and foundation stone-laying ceremony for Phase II of Fortis OP Jindal Hospital in Raigarh, which took place via video conferencing. Phase II, which aims to increase the hospital’s bed capacity to 155, is set to be completed in two years, at a cost of Rs 25 crore.

About the hospital
Spread across an area of 55,000 square feet, the hospital will include services such as ICU, neuro-ICU, dialysis, radiology, endoscopy, gastroenterology, urology, nephrology, cardiovascular surgery, as well as a Covid isolation ward, according to ICMR guidelines.
Terming the hospital a “great achievement”, CM Baghel thanked Jindal for providing the people of Raigarh with well-equipped healthcare facilities, and hoped they would no longer have to go to other cities for treatment.
Commenting on the occasion, JSPL Foundation chairperson Shallu Jindal, said: “JSPL Foundation is committed to providing world class health care facilities for the community. Expanding OP Jindal Hospital at Raigarh is an expression of our resolve to enhance quality health care facilities in the region and a giant step forward to defeat Covid-19.”
