Ranchi, Sep 21 (PTI) The Jharkhand Congress on Monday demanded the resignation of Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary over the alleged harassment of a boy and a girl by a roadside in the neighbouring state’s Jamui.
The law and order situation in Bihar has crumbled, the party alleged.
“Accountability must be fixed for the government in a state where miscreants have the audacity to stop a young woman on the street and openly mistreat her. Choudhary should accept accountability and resign from the CM’s post,” Jharkhand Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said in a statement.
The Jamui Police on Monday arrested three persons, while search was on for others allegedly involved in the incident, a video of which has triggered outrage on social media.
“If the Bihar government fails to provide a safe environment for daughters in the state, the chief minister should take responsibility and step down,” Singh asserted.
The Congress demanded that the investigation into the case be completed in a time-bound manner, and strict action be taken against all the culprits.
Jamui SP Bishwajeet Dayal said the incident took place on September 19 evening and a Special Investigation Team, headed by a woman officer, was conducting raids to arrest the other accused.
The video, which purportedly shows the two being harassed by a group of people, has drawn criticism on social media as well as from political leaders.
