Ranchi, Mar 19 (PTI) The CID in Jharkhand has busted an “international call centre” here that allegedly duped foreigners by gaining access to sensitive data in their devices, an official said on Tuesday.

The centre was operating on the third floor of a building near Kishoreganj in Ranchi, he said.

“Two persons… have been arrested in connection with the case and several electronic gadgets were also recovered,” a CID statement said.

People from Australia and the United Kingdom turned out to be their main victims, the official said.

Impersonating as officials of British and Australian telecom companies, members operating the centre used to call identified targets on the pretext of providing technological support.

“As per the received information, two cybercriminals who were earlier arrested in a similar case lodged in Gorakhpur had been running this call center along with their other associates,” the statement said.

“Calls were made citing issues with internet speeds and promising quick solution. They lured them to install remote access software in the victims’ systems,” it added. PTI SAN RBT
