Ranchi, Jul 22 (PTI) The opposition BJP on Wednesday escalated its protest against the alleged irregularities in the state civil services exam results, by demonstrating in front of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) office and demanding a CBI probe into all disputed recruitment examinations.
Amid the demonstrations, the JPSC postponed the JPSC Combined Civil Services Mains Exam, scheduled from July 25 to July 27, until further orders “due to unavoidable circumstances”, the commission said.
Workers of the BJP and its youth wing BJYM gathered near the JPSC office and the state Congress headquarters, raising slogans against the JMM-led coalition government, and sought an impartial probe into the allegations.
During the protest outside the JPSC office, party leaders and supporters attempted to break barricades, but were prevented by the police from entering the premises.
The protesters demanded cancellation of the 14th JPSC Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination, held on April 19, and fresh tests be conducted.
“Congress, an alliance partner in the state, is silent on the repeated irregularities committed over the past six years in JPSC, JSSC CGL, Excise Constable Recruitment and other examinations,” BJP state president Aditya Sahu said.
“The deception with the youth and students of Jharkhand, and playing with their future must stop. Before accusing the central government, the Congress should first look at its own actions,” Sahu said.
The BJP state president demanded a fair CBI investigation into all disputed recruitment examinations, including the 14th JPSC exam.
“A CBI probe will bring out the truth and find out the culprits behind the question paper leaks of JPSC and recruitment scams,” the BJP state president said.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly Babulal Marandi claimed that the ongoing CID investigation in the JPSC case is just an eyewash, similar to the attempt made to save key figures in the “liquor scam”.
“If Chief Minister Hemant Soren has the moral courage, he should immediately take JPSC Chairman L Khiangte into custody and allow a fair interrogation,” he said.
The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), which was also part of the demonstration, claimed that thousands of civil services aspirants from across the state took part in the protest.
The BJP’s youth wing also took out a torchlight procession in Ranchi on Tuesday, alleging irregularities in the state civil services exam and demanding cancellation of the preliminary test.
“Under pressure from BJYM’s torchlight procession and the statewide public outrage, the JPSC chairman was hastily made to resign, which itself casts a cloud of suspicion over the entire matter,” BJYM state president Shashank Raj claimed.
A rumour about the “resignation of the JPSC chairman following a police raid in the commission’s office” was doing the rounds since Tuesday. But there was no official confirmation about it, though the Congress, a constituent of the ruling coalition, spoke about it.
The JPSC on Wednesday cancelled an upcoming exam three days before it was scheduled to begin.
“Important information regarding the schedule for various examinations conducted by Jharkhand Public Service Commission. Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Main (Written) Competitive Examination-2025 which was scheduled from 25.07.2026 to 27.07.2026 is postponed till further orders due to unavoidable reasons,” the JPSC said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the Congress claimed that by gheraoing the JPCC office, the BJP is trying to divert people’s attention from the central government’s alleged failures, corruption, and anti-people policies.
“Congress workers gave a complete and fitting response to this gherao programme. Hundreds of our workers gathered in front of the Congress office and stood firm for hours,” the party said in a statement.
State Congress spokesperson Sonal Shanti said, “The government in Jharkhand has fulfilled its responsibilities. As soon as irregularities came to light in JPSC, an investigation was started, and the JPSC Chairman resigned. The CID probe is ongoing, but the central government is running away from its responsibilities. They should take the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.” State Congress media in-charge Rakesh Sinha said the BJP should get rid of the illusion that it can silence the voice of the Congress by staging demonstrations at its offices.
“Under whose rule did paper leaks repeatedly shatter the dreams of lakhs of students? Who broke the back of the common man with inflation? Who forgot the promise of doubling farmers’ income? Instead of answering these questions, the BJP is running away from them,” Sinha said. PTI RPS RBT RPS NN
