New Delhi: The capital’s police are in hot pursuit of robbers who stole gold and diamond jewellery worth over Rs 20 crore from a shop in South East Delhi sometime between late Sunday night and early Tuesday.
The theft came to light when owners opened the shop on Tuesday morning, after a day off on Monday.
They walked into a store full of dust, owner Sanjeev Jain said and noticed a hole in the strongroom wall where the valuables were kept.
“We think they have looted everything. There was jewellery worth around Rs 20 to 25 crores,” Jain told the media, adding other goods in the shop were also damaged, including closed-circuit cameras. He surmises the thieves entered the shop from the terrace.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Deo told ThePrint: “An FIR is being registered. We are confirming the value of the stolen goods, but it looks to be huge.”
Deo said the cops were working on initial leads. A team was also trying to retrieve CCTV footage of the area.
Sources said at least two suspicious people were seen in the footage. DCP Deo added that all entry and exit points to the showroom, Umrao, were also being checked for evidence.
