Mumbai, Jul 17 (PTI) NCP (SP) MLA Jayant Patil met Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Friday seeking his intervention in the disqualification of Urun-Islampur Municipal Council president Anandrao Malgunde and councillor Sunil Malgunde over an alleged encroachment case.
Malgunde, who was elected municipal council president by a margin of 7,200 votes and had initiated several development works in the town, and his brother Sunil Malgunde were stripped of their respective posts by citing an old encroachment case, Patil said in a statement.
The senior NCP (SP) leader met Shinde, who also holds the Urban Development portfolio, at the latter’s official residence here along with the Malgunde siblings.
Patil urged Shinde to review the decision to disqualify the two, adding that the action had deprived the people of Urun-Islampur the services of their elected representatives.
Patil’s meeting with Shinde came amid speculation of political alignments and realignments. The NCP (SP) leader’s meeting with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier this week had sparked such talk. PTI MR BNM
