New Delhi: Three days after a low intensity blast near the Israel embassy, the Delhi Police registered an FIR against unknown persons Friday night, ThePrint has learnt.
“The FIR has been lodged under Section 3 of the Explosives Act,” said a source in the Delhi Police.
Section 3 of the Explosive Substances Act outlines punishment for ‘causing an explosion likely to endanger life or property’. The FIR has been registered at Tughlak Road police station on the basis of a complaint filed by a police officer.
The blast near the embassy was reported Tuesday at 5.53 am. The Delhi Police Special Cell, local police, NIA, NSG, bomb squad, fire department rushed to the spot.
Forensic samples have been collected from the explosion site. ThePrint had earlier reported that shrapnel was found at the explosion site and that probe has found that an explosion, suspected to have been caused by a “crude bomb”, did take place that evening. A wall at the site had also shown impact.
Sources said that the FIR was lodged after “crucial evidence” was found regarding the blast.
The NSG has submitted a preliminary post blast analysis report on the low intensity blast.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have not yet been able to trace their “prime suspect”. Sources had earlier told ThePrint that the suspect had taken an autorickshaw from Jamia Nagar to Prithviraj Road. However due to lack of CCTV footage, the sources further said, police have not yet been able to trace this individual.
An “abusive letter” was also found near the explosion site, addressed to the Israeli ambassador.
