Hyderabad, Jul 3 (PTI) The Cyberabad Police here on Friday said an interstate kidnap gang involved in the abduction of a one-month-old baby girl was arrested.

A complaint was received in the early hours of June 30 from Malan Bourav Shantha Bai (25), a circus worker from Karnataka, that some unknown persons came in an auto-rickshaw and snatched away her baby girl from her lap at 2 AM when she was sleeping on the pavement near the Lingampally railway station.

On hearing the baby’s cries, she woke up and attempted to chase the offenders, but they escaped from the spot in the auto-rickshaw, a Cyberabad Police release said.

It said a case was registered and three police teams were constituted to nab the culprits. The teams verified footage of a large number of CCTVs in the city for three days.

After making strenuous efforts, the teams apprehended all the accused and recovered the kidnapped girl child, it said.

Investigation revealed that one Rehnuma Ali (about 30 years), a resident of Kolkata, had no children, and requested her aunt, Seema, a Hyderabad resident to arrange a baby for adoption on payment.

Seema, in turn, informed her friend Naziya regarding the requirement. Naziya conveyed the information to her fiancé, Zubair of Vikarabad, promising substantial money.

Zubair contacted his associate Irfan, a previous offender in a theft case, and both made a criminal conspiracy to kidnap and sell an infant.

While searching for a suitable target, they noticed the complainant and her baby and executed their plan by hiring an auto-rickshaw.

After committing the offence, they took the baby to the house of Naziya and informed Seema and Rehnuma Ali about the successful kidnapping, the release said.

On July 1, Rehnuma Ali travelled from Kolkata to Hyderabad by flight to take the custody of the kidnapped baby. Zubair received Rs 1.50 lakh online from Rehnuma Ali towards the illegal sale of the infant.

Before Rehnuma Ali could escape with the kidnapped child to Calcutta, the police team successfully apprehended all the accused persons, rescued the one-month-old baby girl, and restored her safely to the custody of her biological mother. PTI SJR SJR KH
