New Delhi, Apr 26 (PTI) A medical professional-turned-social worker and newly appointed BJP Mahila Morcha general secretary in Madhya Pradesh, Swapna Verma credits Prime Minister Narendra Modi for strengthening her resolve to scale sustainable healthcare solutions and contribute more meaningfully to society by acknowledging her work.
Verma, who was recognised among 10 individuals from across the country at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue-2025 held on National Youth Day (January 12) in Delhi last year, said her interaction with Modi reinforced the purpose of her journey in public life and social service.
“I got the opportunity to present my work directly before Modi Ji, who acknowledged the impact of a scalable, community-driven healthcare model I have been building. It has had a lasting impact on my future plans,” she said.
Verma, whose NGO Madhurima Sewa Sanskar Foundation works in the fields of healthcare, education, sanitation and women’s empowerment, said the recognition signified more than a personal achievement.
“It was a call to action – a responsibility to amplify impact, expand reach, and contribute more meaningfully to society.
“It has strengthened my resolve to think beyond conventional boundaries, scale sustainable solutions, and address healthcare challenges at a systemic level,” she said.
Her initiative was showcased as a case study at the dialogue in Delhi, highlighting the role of social entrepreneurship in expanding public health outreach.
Speaking about her transition from a medical professional to politics and social work, Verma said, “It was driven by a deeper realisation that meaningful and lasting change in society cannot be achieved by government alone. It requires collective responsibility and active participation across sectors.” Her association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since childhood shaped her commitment to service and nation-building, she said.
On her appointment as the Mahila Morcha general secretary in Madhya Pradesh last month, Verma said the BJP has consistently promoted grassroots leadership and encouraged first-generation leaders.
“My appointment should not be viewed as a sudden shift, but rather as a continuation of my long-standing commitment to social service and active participation in party work,” she said.
Verma added that the prime minister is often cited as an example of a leader who emerged from a humble background without any political lineage, “reflecting the party’s emphasis on merit, organisational commitment, and grassroots engagement”.
“In contrast, our political history has seen a strong presence of dynastic politics, particularly within the Congress, which has traditionally been led by successive generations of the same family,” Verma said.
On strengthening women’s participation in the Mahila Morcha, Verma said her focus would remain on grassroots outreach, and encouraging first-time participants to take up leadership roles.
Elaborating on her NGO Madhurima Sewa Sanskar Foundation, she said its ‘Bimari Mukt Bharat’ campaign focuses on preventive healthcare through mass health screenings and treatment support for economically weaker patients.
It also runs the ‘Madhurima Sanskar Pathshala’ in tribal areas to promote value-based education and initiatives such as ‘Pad Sakhi’ to spread menstrual health awareness among young girls, she said. PTI PLB ARI ARI
