India’s Justice Ministry holds conference on the implementation of new criminal laws

The conference was organised by the Department of Legal Affairs of Ministry of Law and Justice with the backdrop of the enactment of three criminal laws.

The Ministry of Law and Justice of India organised a conference Saturday titled ‘India’s Progressive Path in the Administration of Criminal Justice System’ in New Delhi.

This conference brought together various stakeholders including judges of various High Courts, President and Vice President of India, Members of ITAT, advocates, academicians, representatives of law enforcement agencies, police officials, Public Prosecutors, District Judges, and other officials of the government and law enforcement.

The conference was organised by the Department of Legal Affairs of Ministry of Law and Justice with the backdrop of the enactment of three criminal laws of India namely Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam 2023 which will come into effect on 1 July 2024.

The Chief Justice of India, Dr. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The purpose of organising this conference was to explore the implementation of the new criminal laws and to bring attention to the problems faced in the criminal justice system of India. The speakers at the conference discussed various aspects of the criminal justice system including the adoption of electronic and digital documents, the use of electronic summons, and the role of evidence admissibility.
