India’s coal production witnesses significant growth in November

Provisional data shows 90.62 million tonnes were produced, up 7.20% from last year.

New Delhi: India’s coal production witnessed significant growth in November 2024, reaching a provisional 90.62 million tonnes (MT), according to a Ministry of Coal press release. This represents a 7.20% increase compared to the 84.52 MT produced in November of the previous year.

This growth was fueled by a surge in coal production from captive and other entities, which saw a 37.69% increase from November 2023, reaching 17.13 MT (provisional). Coal production from captive and other entities grew 37.69% from 12.44 MT in November 2023 to 17.13 MT in November 2024, the release noted.

Cumulatively, coal production for the fiscal year 2024-25 has reached 628.03 MT (provisional) up to November 2024. This is a 6.21% increase compared to the 591.32 MT produced during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Coal dispatches also showed positive growth, reaching 85.22 MT (provisional) in November 2024, a 3.85% increase from the 82.07 MT dispatched in November 2023. Dispatches from captive and other entities saw a significant 25.73% rise, reaching 16.58 MT in November 2024, compared to 13.19 MT in November of the previous year.

The Ministry of Coal stated its commitment to ensuring the nation’s energy needs are met by focusing on increasing production, improving dispatch efficiency, and ensuring seamless coal availability across the country.
