New Delhi: The World Heritage Committee (WHC) is set to hold its 46th meeting in New Delhi, India, from July 21 to 31. The India will host the WHC meeting for the first time in its own country, a PIB press release stated.
The Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekawat, has expressed India’s commitment to heritage conservation and said that the country is committed to working with other countries to preserve the cultural heritage of humanity.
The 46th WHC meeting will focus on the preservation of cultural heritage and will also provide a platform for the international community to come together and promote cooperation in the field of heritage conservation. The minister highlighted the various heritage conservation projects that are being carried out in the country and also said that the government is committed to providing capacity building assistance to UNESCO and other international organizations in the field of heritage conservation.
India has been placed at the sixth position in the world in terms of the number of World Heritage Sites, with the inscription of 13 new sites in the last decade. The recently approved Moidams from Assam are the first cultural site from Assam to receive this recognition.
