India to conduct 21st livestock census

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, inaugurated a workshop to discuss the preparation for the 21st Livestock Census in New Delhi. The ministers also launched a mobile application for data collection, a PIB press release stated.

He emphasized the need for a comprehensive planning and execution of the census, noting that the data collected will be instrumental in developing future initiatives and addressing the challenges faced by the sector. Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, also addressed the workshop and emphasised the need for thorough training and capacity building at the grassroots level. He acknowledged the efforts of the Department in organising this strategic workshop and encouraged the participants to actively participate in the training sessions to enhance their understanding and capabilities.
Shri George Kurian, also present at the workshop, emphasised the integration of sustainable practices within the livestock sector. He informed that the census data will be used to contribute towards the National Indicator Framework of Sustainable Development Goals, thereby aligning with broader national and international sustainability targets. The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying has taken a significant step forward in the preparation for the 21st Livestock Census by launching a mobile application. This mobile application will be used for the smooth and efficient data collection of various livestock species. The government is committed to providing complete and accurate data regarding the livestock sector in India.
