Kolkata, Apr 28 (PTI) The IMD on Tuesday warned of thunderstorms and gusty winds in south Bengal on April 29, the second phase of polling of the state assembly election.
In a special bulletin, the IMD said that in view of favourable wind pattern and strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, thunderstorms and associated activities are very likely to occur across West Bengal for the next one week.
The second phase of the West Bengal Assembly election will be held on April 29, and it will cover several districts in south Bengal, including Kolkata.
Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds with speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph are likely in south Bengal districts, including Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman, Bankura and Paschim Medinipur, till May 3, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Heavy rainfall is likely in the sub-Himalayan districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri and Cooch Behar till May 3, it said.
The IMD advised fishermen not to venture in the sea along and off the West Bengal and north Odisha coasts till May 2.
