New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has received a significant boost in its efforts to pursue research and innovation in the medical field by getting a Rs 16.5 crore grant from the Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC) for the establishment of a state-of-the-art anatomy laboratory, a PIB press release stated.

The state-of-the-art Anatomy laboratory was inaugurated by Parminder Chopra, CMD, Power Finance Corporation Limited (PFC), on August 13, 2024. The grant was granted by PFC to support the development of advanced technology for effective teaching and learning in the undergraduate medical education programme.

The new anatomy lab is designed to use and develop advanced technology that will further strengthen the undergraduate medical education in the field of medical sciences and engineering. The facility is expected to provide students with hands-on experience in anatomy, which is traditionally based on more conventional methods. This will pave the way for the development of innovative products and services that will contribute to the nation’s healthcare sector.

The installation of the new anatomy lab is a significant step forward for the institute’s efforts to integrate high-tech methods into undergraduate medical education. It is also expected to promote innovation and create opportunities for students to generate innovative and disruptive product ideas. This, in turn, will lead to the development of indigenous products, which will reduce the nation’s reliance on imports and contribute to self-reliance in the medical field.
