IB staffer found dead in violence-hit Chand Bagh in northeast Delhi

Hospital authorities said Intelligence Bureau staffer, identified as Ankit Sharma, was possibly killed in the stone-pelting.

New Delhi: An Intelligence Bureau staffer was Wednesday found dead in northeast Delhi’s riot-hit Chand Bagh area, PTI reported.

Ankit Sharma, who lived in Chand Bagh, may have been killed in stone pelting, officials said.

His body has been taken to the Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital for an autopsy.

In a hearing, the Delhi High Court said Sharma’s death was extremely unfortunate, PTI reported.

As many 24 people have been killed in the communal violence that has disrupted peace in Delhi since Sunday evening.

The violence is a result of clashes between two groups of protesters who were opposing and supporting the amended citizenship.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday asked the Centre to call in the Army, saying the situation had become “alarming” as police has been “unable to control it”.

According to GTB Hospital authorities, the number of injured now stands at 189.

Patients have come with several kinds of injuries, including gunshots, trauma from jumping from rooftops to escape violence and head injuries.

Police have been carrying out flag marched in the violence-hit areas to boost confidence of citizens and bring the situation to normal.

National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval late last night also took stock of the situation, sources said.
