Hamirpur (HP), Apr 16 (PTI) Insects were found inside the packet of chips here, raising concerns regarding the food safety and prompting authorities to order a probe into the matter.

The incident came to light on Thursday in the Gauna area of the Nadaun subdivision when a family opened a packet of chips purchased from a local shop and noticed insects crawling inside it, officials said.

The family said they were relieved to have spotted the insects before the two-year-old child could consume the product.

An aggrieved family member, Sony Kumar, said the packet bore a manufacturing date of March 19 and an expiry date of July 17, indicating it was within its validity period.

The shopkeeper said the stock had been supplied by the company just two days ago and had lodged a complaint with the firm after the incident.

The family demanded that the company management take strict action against the negligence demonstrated in the packaging process.

Nadaun Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nishant Sharma said strict directives will be issued to the concerned department to conduct an investigation and take appropriate action regarding this incident.

District Food Safety Officer Abhishek said no formal complaint has been received so far, adding that once the family lodge a complaint, a sample of the chips will be collected to facilitate appropriate legal action. PTI COR BPL SMV APL
