Shimla, Oct 2 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday said his government’s focus was on increasing the income of people in rural areas and ensuring that money flows directly into the village economy.

Addressing a public meeting in Rampur subdivision of Shimla district, Sukhu said the procurement price of milk had doubled from Rs 32 per litre when his government took charge in the state.

He said the government was continuously taking steps to strengthen the economic condition of horticulturists and farmers, a statement issued here said.

During his visit to the area, Sukhu inaugurated and performed bhumi poojan for 28 development projects worth Rs 232.93 crore at Shingla helipad in Rampur for the Rampur Assembly constituency.

He said the state government had sanctioned Rs 36 crore for construction of the Tikkar-Jarol-Gahan road, which would make it easier for apple growers in the area to transport their produce to markets.

Sukhu directed officials to ensure that there was no compromise on the quality of road construction.

He said he would also participate in the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme at Pat village in the Rampur Assembly constituency, where he would interact directly with villagers and listen to their problems.

He said necessary schemes would be incorporated into the budget based on suggestions and issues raised by villagers. PTI BPL RHL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
