Shimla, Oct 2 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday visited the Tangnu-Janglik panchayat area in Shimla district’s Rohru, announcing works worth Rs 6 crore, and directed officials to restore landslide-hit Janglik road for vehicular traffic within 10 days.

He said the closure of the road was causing difficulties for residents, as well as horticulturists, and that the government will ensure its early restoration, according to a statement released here.

Sukhu also announced an additional Rs 4 crore to expedite the work on the Janglik bridge, which is under construction, and Rs 2 crore for the area affected by the landslide in Thaintwadi village.

Earlier, the chief minister listened to the grievances of locals and directed officials to ensure their speedy resolution during the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme held at Bhatwari village of the Rohru assembly constituency in Shimla district on Thursday night.

As villagers welcomed him with traditional music and dance, Sukhu joined them in singing Laman folk songs and performing the Nati dance, the statement said, adding that he stayed in the area overnight.

The chief minister announced Rs 5 lakh each for Mahila Mandals and assured the locals that the Barshil bridge would be made motorable, further announcing Rs 20 lakh for the Chingwari road.

Additionally, he announced Rs 5 lakh for the construction of the Pekha-Diudi Mahila Mandal building and declared that the Dhamwari school would be affiliated with the CBSE board, the statement added. PTI BPL

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
