Una (HP), Apr 29 (PTI) Two individuals were charred to death when the car they were travelling in plunged into a 150-feet-deep gorge and burst into flames on Wednesday, officials said.
The incident took place on the Bharwain-Hoshiarpur Road here, a stretch known for its sharp turns and steep downward gradient.
Reports suggest that a loud bang, possibly a tyre blowout, was heard just before the vehicle caught fire, leading to speculation that the accident may have been caused by the tyre bursting while the Maruti Swift car was in motion.
By the time police and fire department personnel arrived, the vehicle had been completely gutted by the fire. The body of one victim was found lying outside the car, while the other victim’s body was discovered inside the charred vehicle.
Police have registered a case, and further investigations are underway. Based on the evidence gathered so far, the police confirmed that only two people died in this incident.
The car, bearing registration number PB-10-K-7531, is registered in Ludhiana, Punjab.
An Aadhaar card recovered from the vehicle listed one of the occupants’ addresses as Tajpur Road, Ludhiana, though their identities have not yet been established, an official spokesperson said.
According to initial reports, the victims had visited the Mata Chintpurni shrine for darshan (worship) and were returning when the accident occurred. PTI COR BPL SMV SMV MPL MPL
