Ranchi, Sep 21 (PTI) Widespread rainfall is likely in parts of Jharkhand till September 26 under the influence of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, an IMD official said on Monday.
A ‘yellow’ alert (be updated) for heavy rainfall has been issued for 11 Jharkhand districts on September 23, while an ‘orange’ alert (be prepared) has been sounded for five districts on September 24, he said.
“A widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected in Jharkhand till September 26 under the influence of a low-pressure system. The major impact of the system is likely to be experienced on September 24 with spells of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts,” said Abhishek Anand, deputy director at the Ranchi Meteorological Centre.
He said a well-marked low-pressure area has developed over the west-central and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours.
“Continuing to move west-northwestwards, it is very likely to reach near the north Andhra Pradesh-South Odisha coasts on September 23,” Anand said.
Heavy rainfall is likely in Lohardaga, Gumla, Simdega, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Khunti, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Saraikela-Kharswan, East and West Singhbhum on September 23.
An alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Gumla, Simdega, Ranchi, Khunti, West Singhbhum, Latehar, Lohardaga, Ramgarh, Hazaribag, Koderma, Giridih, Bokaro, Dhanbad and Saraikela-Kharswan on September 24, the IMD said in a bulletin.
Jharkhand has recorded a 7-per cent rainfall deficit from June 1 to September 23, which is considered normal as per IMD parametres.
The state received 891-mm rainfall against the normal of 962.4-mm between June 1 and September 21.
Eleven districts out of 24 are still facing deficit rainfall, with Pakur recording the highest 51 per cent, followed by Chatra at 37 per cent and Dhanbad at 34 per cent. PTI SAN RBT
