Heavy rain lashes parts of Jharkhand; inclement weather likely to continue till May 9

Ranchi, May 5 (PTI) Parts of Jharkhand were lashed by heavy rain in the 24-hour period till Tuesday morning, with the weather department predicting rainfall, thunderstorm and a drop in day temperatures in the state till May 9.

Tenughat in Bokaro district registered the highest 82.2 mm of rain, Khunti district 26.5 mm and Ranchi 19.6 mm, the meteorological office in the state capital said.

According to a weather bulletin from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) the state is likely to witness overcast conditions and rainfall till May 9, as it issued an orange alert, advising people to be prepared for heavy rains and thunder in districts till Wednesday morning.

The 10 districts are Dhanbad, Bokaro, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega, Saraikela-Kharswan, East and West Singhbhum.

The maximum temperatures were below 40 degrees Celsius across the state, with Daltonganj registering the highest day temperature at 39.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Jamshedpur at 36 degrees Celsius and Chaibasa at 35.8 degrees Celsius.

Ranchi registered the maximum temperature at 34.4 degrees Celsius.
