Lucknow, May 7 (PTI) A bench of the Allahabad High Court has deferred till May 12 the hearing on a plea seeking a probe into the alleged disproportionate assets of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi after counsel for central and state agencies sought time to obtain written instructions in the matter.
The matter was heard on Wednesday by a bench of Justice Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Justice Zafeer Ahmad on a writ petition filed by Karnataka BJP worker S Vignesh Shishir.
The petitioner alleged that Gandhi had amassed huge wealth from unknown sources and sought directions for an inquiry.
The petition named the central government, the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Enforcement Directorate, the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Uttar Pradesh Police and the Director of the Serious Fraud Investigation Office as opposite parties.
The petition was filed on April 25 and was first heard on May 6.
The proceedings against the leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha were conducted in the judges’ chamber instead of an open court.
According to the court order, the petitioner moved an application seeking directions for the preservation of the records of the writ petition in safe custody.
After hearing arguments from the petitioner, the counsel appearing for the governments and agencies sought a “short time” to obtain written instructions, following which the bench fixed May 12 for the next hearing.
The bench also directed that the entire copy of the writ petition be sealed in the presence of the court and kept in the custody of the senior registrar of the high court.
It ordered that the case file be produced again before the bench on May 12 at 2.15 pm for a hearing in the chamber.
The seal should be opened by the bench secretary on the next date of listing, it directed. PTI COR CDN VN VN
