Chandigarh, Jul 24 (PTI) Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh on Friday said the first phase of the party’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” campaign and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) awareness drive has been successfully completed.
Under the guidance of Haryana Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt, the campaign was conducted from July 19 to 23, during which extensive public outreach, organisational meetings, and interactions with party workers were successfully organised across various districts of the state, he said in a statement.
Last month, the Congress had announced a 40-day nationwide “Chhatron Ki Goonj” (Voice of Students) campaign to press for reforms in the examination system and highlight issues of paper leaks, other irregularities and unemployment.
In the statement, Rao Narender Singh said that the first phase of the campaign covered three Lok Sabha constituencies — namely Ambala, Kurukshetra and Karnal — along with five districts, namely Panchkula, Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Karnal. This involved eight District Congress Committees and 18 Assembly constituencies.
Extensive discussions were held with Congress office-bearers, workers and supporters on issues concerning the education system, irregularities in recruitment examinations, paper leaks, rising unemployment, and other matters affecting the youth.
Party workers were also briefed about the objectives, process and significance of the SIR campaign, with a call to take the awareness drive effectively to the booth level.
Singh said that Sanjay Dutt held one-to-one interactions with office-bearers and party workers in every district to discuss the campaign strategy, organisational strengthening, and future programmes.
“The enthusiasm, active participation, and commitment displayed by Congress workers at every location reflected the growing public sentiment for political change in Haryana,” Singh said.
He further announced that the second phase of the campaign will be conducted from July 30 to August 3, covering the districts of Faridabad, Palwal, Nuh, Rewari and Gurugram.
Meetings will be organised with all District Congress Committees and across 19 Assembly constituencies to further expand the reach of the “Chhatron Ki Goonj” and SIR awareness campaigns.
Singh said the Congress has always stood firmly with students, youths, and common people, and will continue its struggle against “injustice and oppression”.
He strongly condemned the alleged mistreatment and lathicharge on students peacefully protesting at Jantar Mantar, stating that suppression of democratic rights has no place in a democratic system.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks about fast-track hearings in paper leak cases are merely an attempt to divert the attention of the country’s youth from the real issues,” he claimed.
“After the NEET-2024 paper leak, the Central government enacted the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, and handed over the investigation to the CBI. However, no chargesheet has yet been filed against the main accused,” he alleged.
He said that unless the existing laws are implemented effectively and impartially, merely enacting a new legislation will not ensure justice for students.
Singh said students across the country are demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“Instead of suppressing or ignoring their voices, the government should seriously consider their legitimate demands,” he said.
He further said that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has consistently been engaging with students and youth, listening to their concerns, and fighting for their rights.
The Congress party remains committed to raising the voice of the people on issues related to education, employment, transparent recruitment processes, and democratic rights, and will continue this struggle with full dedication and determination, he added. PTI CHS RUK RUK
