Gurugram, Sep 21 (PTI) Gurugram police arrested the accused driver in the Sector 89 cab collision case and recovered an SUV used in the incident, officials said on Monday.
Chaos erupted late at night in Gurugram’s Sector 89 area when the intoxicated driver of an SUV (Thar) went on a rampage and repeatedly rammed his vehicle into a cab belonging to his own friends.
The impact was so severe that both front airbags of the cab were deployed, and the front of the vehicle was completely wrecked, they added.
The cab driver and the two men inside the cab had a narrow escape. A video of the entire incident also surfaced on social media.
According to the police, on September 18, a person approached the police team of Police Station Kherki Daula and reported that he works as a cab driver. He said near Sati Chowk, the SUV driver, while driving recklessly, suddenly collided with his vehicle.
Based on his complaint, a case was registered.
Subsequently, the police arrested the accused driver, Manjeet Rawat (25), a resident of village Bharthal in Delhi, from Gurugram on September 19.
During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused was travelling to Sohna in his vehicle along with his friends from his village. During the journey, they consumed alcohol.
After consuming alcohol, an argument broke out between the accused and his companions regarding who would drive the vehicle, which subsequently led to a physical altercation.
Thereafter, when the accused’s friends booked a cab to leave, the accused deliberately collided his Thar vehicle with the cab, thereby committing the offence, they added.
“The police team has recovered the Thar vehicle used in the incident. Further legal proceedings are being carried out by the police team as per the law. Investigation in the case is underway”, said a senior police officer. PTI COR SHS
