Gurugram, Oct 2 (PTI) The Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) free campaign was launched here on Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on Friday as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2026’ initiative and the ongoing Seva Sankalp Abhiyaan in Haryana.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inspected a GVP-free site developed by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram near the DHBVN Colony on Mehrauli Road and formally launched the campaign.
According to an official statement, Saini said cleanliness should not be limited to government arrangements and stressed the importance of active citizen participation.
The government can provide systems, facilities, modern technology and resources, but segregating waste generated by households and institutions is the responsibility of citizens, he said.
Saini identified government systems, modern technology and public participation as three key aspects of the cleanliness campaign and said the objective was to turn the drive into a broad-based citizens’ campaign.
He appealed to people not to throw waste in the open, to segregate waste at source, and to hand over garbage only to authorised waste collection vehicles.
Under the campaign, special cleanliness drives will be conducted at 21 identified GVPs across Gurugram, aiming to turn them into clean, improved public spaces. The campaign carries the message, “10 Days – 21 Garbage Points – One Gurugram”.
The GVP-free campaign, running from October 2 to 11, aims to clean identified locations and encourage responsible behaviour to prevent garbage from accumulating again. The drive will be held at Tikri and Sector 18 on October 3; Urbana Mall and Subhash Chowk on October 4; Pace City-1 and Gaushala Maidan on October 5; and Pace City and Singha Chowk on October 6.
From October 7 to 11, the campaign will cover other identified locations, including Krishna Colony, near Megapolis Mall, near Indian Gas, Ghata, Banjara Market, Sector 37, Mohammad Heri Road, Daulatabad Road, Sector 39 and Ullawas.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has appealed to resident welfare associations, shopkeepers, schools, youth and residents to participate in the campaign.
During the programme, street theatre artists also spread the message of cleanliness and waste segregation through a performance. PTI COR SMV ASD
