New Delhi: Copies of the Guru Granth Sahib, considered a living guru by the Sikh community, were flown from New Delhi to Hong Kong on an Air India flight Saturday. The business class section was fully booked for the service.

In a social media post that has gone viral, the physical copies or saroops can be seen placed on seats in the business class section of the flight, while a few individuals perform sewa.

Some in the crew can be seen fanning the Guru Granth Sahib with a chaur sahib (a ceremonial whisk traditionally made of yak hair), which is a way of providing sewa.

“Guru Granth Sahib Ji’s Saroops were respectfully transported from New Delhi to Hong Kong. The entire business class was booked for the sewa, which was carried out smoothly with full maryada, supported by the local Gurdwara sangat in Hong Kong,” Gagandeep Singh, a Chandigarh-based journalist, said in his post on X.

In another video, the airline crew can be seen ferrying the flower-laden copies by placing them on their head and walking barefoot, according to the custom.

Singh said in his post that the physical copies were transported with utmost respect in business class, accompanied by sewadars, and with support from the local Hong Kong gurdwara team, airport authorities and Air India staff.

While some X users appreciated the act and service, others questioned the need to book an entire business class section.
