Ahmedabad, Apr 9 (PTI) The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday announced candidates for polls to the district panchayat, taluka panchayats, and municipalities of Vav-Tharad and Aravalli as well as Surendranagar Municipal Corporation in Gujarat.
Elections to local self-government bodies will be held on April 26 for nearly 10,000 seats, with counting of votes scheduled for April 28. Over 4.18 crore voters will be eligible to exercise their franchise in the polls, which will cover 34 district panchayats, 260 taluka panchayats and 84 municipalities besides 15 municipal corporations.
The Aam Aadmi Party has announced candidates for some municipalities, municipal corporations, taluka panchayats, and district panchayats seats, while the Gujarat Congress did so for several seats on Sunday.
Among the cities which will see polls are Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar. Nine poll-bound corporations are new, having been formed last year.
