Gujarat in-charge DGP holds review meeting on security arrangements for local polls

Gandhinagar, Apr 21 (PTI) Gujarat in-charge Director General of Police (DGP) Dr K L N Rao on Tuesday reviewed arrangements on the law and order front to ensure smooth and fair conduct of upcoming local governing bodies, officials said.

A video conference meeting was held under the chairmanship of Gujarat DGP with officials of the state police, an official release said.

A large deployment of police and auxiliary forces has been planned to ensure that the election process is conducted in a peaceful and fair manner across the state, it said.

The elections will cover 15 municipal corporations, 84 municipalities, 13 municipal by-elections, 34 district panchayats and 260 taluka panchayat seats, the release said.

To maintain peace during the polls, the state police have deployed 59,525 Home Guard and Gram Rakshak Dal (GRD) personnel, along with 41,383 additional security personnel, it added.

During the conference, the DGP issued instructions for intensified patrolling in sensitive areas and continuous monitoring of the law and order situation.

He also directed officials to strengthen security arrangements at inter-district and state borders.

Police units have been instructed to remain alert and ensure uninterrupted communication systems to avoid any technical glitches during the election period, the release said. PTI KVM PD NP
