Ahmedabad, Jul 22 (PTI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has busted a mephedrone manufacturing unit operating from a residential building in Gujarat’s Ankleshwar town and arrested three persons, officials said on Wednesday.
DRI officers found a fully functional laboratory equipped with sophisticated apparatus, including an industrial oven dryer, hot plate heaters, a condenser assembly, an electric stirrer and other equipment, an official release said.
The agency seized 1.349 kg of mephedrone in solid form and large quantities of chemicals used in the manufacture of the banned drug.
Simultaneous searches at the residences of the accused led to the recovery of Rs 20 lakh, believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking, the release said.
DRI officers later apprehended the intended receiver of the drug and recovered another Rs 1 lakh, a token payment for taking delivery of the mephedrone.
Mephedrone, commonly known as “Meow Meow”, “MD”, “M-Cat” or “Drone”, is a highly addictive synthetic psychotropic substance.
According to the DRI, the laboratory setup and large quantities of chemicals suggested preparations to expand the manufacturing capacity. PTI PJT PD KRK
