Hyderabad: In one of the largest reshuffles of senior officers since the Congress assumed power in December 2023, the Telangana government transferred 45 officers, including collectors of multiple districts. The transfers come a month before the superannuation of Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, who retires on 31 March.
The officers were notified through a Government Order (GO) issued by the General Administration Department Thursday morning. The note, undersigned by the chief secretary, attributed the change in roles to the exigencies of administration and covered senior secretariat positions, district collectors, and key departmental roles.
Among those transferred are the special chief secretary of the Industries and Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (ITE&C) department, Sanjay Kumar. He will now handle the Rural Development (RD) department and the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWS&S) department, including rural sanitation and drinking water (RSAD).
N. Sridhar will take his place as ITE&C secretary, even as he continues to hold his position as secretary, Mines and Geology.
Other transfers include the new postings of two special chief secretaries Sabyasachi Ghosh and M. Dana Kishore. While Ghosh has been reassigned to the Implementation of Flagship Welfare and Developmental Schemes Unit and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) department, Kishore will now be responsible for disaster management in the Revenue Department, a position he currently holds in full additional charge (FAC), in addition to serving as secretary, Labour and Employment.
The administrative changes also saw nearly a dozen collectors transferred. Jangaon, Yadadri Bhongir, Narayanpet, Karimnagar, Rajanna Sircilla, Vikarabad, Medak, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanamkonda, and Mahabubnagar have new collectors, while the existing officers were assigned to the three new commissionerates as zonal officers.
The sweeping changes within the bureaucracy are the second in the month.
Earlier this month, special chief secretary Jayesh Ranjan was assigned the post of a special commissioner for all three new municipal corporations. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was trifurcated, and the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation were created. New commissioners were appointed to the three new corporations.
Sources in the government told ThePrint that the new postings come in the wake of the government having completed two years in power. The Congress government led by Revanth Reddy assumed office in December 2023 after defeating the incumbent Bharat Rashtra Samithi led by former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
