New Delhi: A 36-year-old bank manager was shot dead inside his cabin by a security guard in the Loni area of Ghaziabad Monday afternoon over reported salary deductions and leave disputes.
The accused, Ravindra Hooda, 50, a resident of Mansoorpur in Baghpat district, and his associate Shishupal, 57, have been arrested. The duo has been booked under Section 103(1) (punishment for murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and charges under the Arms Act have also been pressed against the accused.
On Monday, Hooda and Shishupal arrived at the bank and went straight into the manager’s cabin. The two argued over an ongoing dispute regarding salary deductions and leave. In anger, Hooda opened fire at the manager, critically injuring him.
The victim, Abhishek Kumar, who hails from Patna, was immediately taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where doctors declared him ‘brought dead’.
“After some salary was deducted following leave, the guard went to the manager. An argument broke out, and the guard opened fire,” said Gyan Prakash Rai, ACP of Ankur Vihar in Ghaziabad.
According to the police, Hooda is a former Army personnel who had joined the bank through a security agency three months ago.
“There was no prior dispute or history of conflict between them,” Rai added.
‘Paid me less, refused to grant leaves’
Police said Abhishek Kumar was originally from Patna and lived in a residential society in Bhopra near Sahibabad. He was transferred to the Ghaziabad branch in 2025.
Police said that Hooda and his accomplice fled after the incident, which took place around 1 pm. They have recovered a double-barrelled gun and ammunition.
In the initial investigation, the accused said he had been working as a guard at this bank for about two and a half months. “He (the manager) paid me less and refused to grant me leave when I asked for it. This led to an argument with the bank manager. In a fit of rage, I shot the manager with my gun,” read Hooda’s statement in the police record.
Speaking to ThePrint over the phone, Abhimanyu Sharma, brother of Abhishek, said that his brother was a calm and composed person who never spoke about any work-related stress or disputes.
“He lived here with his wife and never mentioned having any conflicts or arguments at his workplace,” Sharma said.
After completing the postmortem and necessary formalities, Abhishek’s body will be taken to his hometown of Patna.
