Mumbai, Oct 2 (PTI) Cockroach Janta Party leader Abhijeet Dipke on Friday announced that a protest will be staged at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on October 10 if Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar did not resign.

Earlier in the day, speaking at a protest organised by the CJP at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, Dipke had warned of “Jantar Mantar 2.0” if Kumar did not step down.

“If Gyanesh Kumar doesn’t resign, cockroaches from across India will march to Delhi & protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10,” he said in a post on X late at night.

If Delhi police tried to stop them, wherever they stop the protesters “will become our Jantar Mantar”, Dipke said.

The protest will be peaceful, he said, adding, “We will walk on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi”.

It was for the government and Delhi Police to decide whether they wanted to respect the right to protest peacefully or “repeat the brutality we witnessed on July 20”, he said.

Police had cracked down on protesters during the CJP’s earlier agitation over the NEET paper leak at Jantar Mantar on July 20.

This was a fight to save Indian democracy and every citizen who wants free and fair elections must join it, Dipke further said. PTI VT KRK KRK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
