Barwani, Sep 21 (PTI) Five persons were booked for allegedly lying down in front of the car of the woman principal of Shaheed Bhima Nayak Government Postgraduate College in Barwani in Madhya Pradesh as part of a protest, a police official said on Monday.
Those booked included the district president of the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), he added.
“Based on a complaint from college principal Dr Veena Satya, a case has been filed against NSUI district president Badal Girase and four others for rioting, wrongful obstruction, and other charges,” Barwani police station in-charge Baljeet Singh Bisen said.
As per her complaint, on September 17, protesters blocked her car and lay down in front of it when she was returning home from college, he said.
“The complaint also accuses the protesters of misbehaving, insulting and intimidating her. The police team present at the scene managed to safely evacuate the principal and other staff from the college campus with great difficulty and take them home. Further probe is underway,” the official said.
NSUI workers were protesting about sports facilities, security arrangements and other unfulfilled demands in a peaceful manner and it was outsiders who provoked students and worsened the situation, Girase claimed. PTI COR HWP MAS BNM
