Bhagalpur, Jul 20 (PTI) A 65-year-old man and his daughter have tested positive for COVID-19 in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, officials said on Monday.
The man was admitted to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH) on Sunday with suspected COVID-19 infection, and an RT-PCR test later confirmed the disease. His daughter, 35, also tested positive during contact testing, hospital superintendent HP Dubey said.
Dubey had earlier identified the second patient as the man’s wife but later issued a clarification, saying it was his daughter.
“Both patients are under intensive medical care, and a team of doctors is closely monitoring and treating them,” he said.
According to hospital officials, the man’s health deteriorated on July 15. He was initially treated at a private clinic before being referred to JLNMCH after developing symptoms consistent with COVID-19.
Dubey said COVID-19 protocols have been activated and the district programme manager has been instructed to conduct testing of people residing in the neighbourhood of the infected patients.
The Bhagalpur district administration also confirmed the two positive cases in an official statement.
JLNMCH’s Head of the Medicine Department Rajkamal Choudhary said the condition of both patients was stable and there was no need to panic.
