New Delhi: Police and fire tenders rushed to Delhi’s Prashant Vihar on Thursday after an explosion was reported near a cinema complex shortly before noon. The blast occurred near the PVR complex, close to the popular Bansi Wala Sweets.

“A call regarding a blast was received from the Prashant Vihar area at 11.48 am today. Fire tenders have reached the site. Police teams are investigating the matter,” a senior police officer said to ThePrint.

Delhi Police PRO, Additional Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Kumar Tyagi said that one person has suffered minor injuries.

According to sources, the police are investigating the possible cause of the explosion.

Speaking to ThePrint, Amit Gopal, owner of Bansi Wala Sweets, said, “It wasn’t a very loud explosion. There was something in a car that exploded near our shop. White powder has been found. No one is hurt”.

“Fire tenders and police teams are collecting residues. Employees are safe,” Gopal added.

This incident comes over a month after another explosion near the CRPF school in Delhi’s Rohini. Videos from the scene showed shattered car and shop windows, initially raising suspicions of a crude bomb. However, an investigation revealed that the blast was caused by a lit cigarette butt thrown into industrial waste. CCTV footage identified a dog walker who discarded the cigarette, which triggered the explosion upon contact with the waste. Forensic science laboratory (FSL) reports on the explosion are awaited.
