Kannauj (UP), Oct 13 (PTI) A 50-year-old gunner of former Kannauj MP Subrat Pathak was killed on Tuesday after the car he was in was rammed into the divider on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway, police said.

Two more car occupants were injured in the collision, they said.

Pathak, who was headed to Kannauj from Agra in the same car, escaped unhurt.

The incident occurred around 2 pm at cut number 145 near Sikandarpur village in the Sakrawa Police Station area.

A Mahindra Scorpio, owned by Pathak and part of his security convoy, went out of control and collided with the divider, killing Constable Abhishek Tripathi on the spot, the police said.

Constables Kunwar Pal and Sharad Prakash, aged 50 and 32, were rushed to a hospital in an injured condition, Sakrawa Station House Officer Bhagmal Singh said.

Pathak told police that Sharad was driving the car, Tripathi was in the front passenger seat, and Kunwar Pal was in the rear seat.

Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar said Tripathi’s family was informed about his death. PTI COR ABN VN

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
