Raipur: Chhattisgarh’s education scene has reached a milestone—no schools are now left without teachers, and the staffing of single-teacher schools has resulted in an 80 percent reduction in the number of schools with only one teacher, the government has said.
These are the results of a recently concluded rationalisation exercise undertaken by the Chhattisgarh government. The exercise aimed to fairly distribute human resources across schools, from Class 1 to 12, while implementing the Right to Education and the National Education Policy, officials have said.
Previously, 453 schools in Chhattisgarh did not have even one teacher, whereas 5,936 schools had one teacher, a cause of concern in districts such as Sukma, Narayanpur, and Bijapur, among others.
Then, the government stepped in. Aiming to regularise the position of teachers in schools, the government formulated a three-tier counselling process for the redeployment of teachers, with all schools assigned teachers through the process, according to officials.
All high schools have achieved the faculty cut-off ratio now, the officials have further said.
Speaking about the government’s moves, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, “We are going ahead in a direction where no child in Chhattisgarh will study without a teacher.”
Additionally, the government has pledged to staff the remaining single-teacher primary schools—1,207—through promotions and new recruitments.
