New Delhi: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CICSE) Thursday said the academic session 2021-22 for schools affiliated to it will begin according to the usual schedule in March.

The council put out this clarification as it has not announced dates for its ICSE and ISC (class 10 and 12) exams yet, which triggered confusion among students and schools. The council said that exams will be delayed from their usual schedule, but didn’t announce the dates.

“The council is in receipt of several queries from the heads of schools regarding the start of the new academic session 2021-22. This has probably been raised because ICSE and ISC exams 2021 have not been scheduled yet. Please be informed that the two matters are unrelated,” read a circular sent by CICSE chief executive and secretary Gerry Arathoon to all school principals Thursday.

The notice further added that the exams will not take place as per their usual schedule in February “given the pandemic situation and the upcoming elections in five states”.

It said, “The dates of exams will be announced later at an appropriate time.”

“However, the start of the academic year 2021-22 will remain same as that of the previous years,” the council said.

According to CISCE regulations, the beginning of new academic year in schools affiliated to the council shall be from mid-March every year. However, schools in the hills may begin from February.

Over 2,300 schools in India and abroad are affiliated to the board.

CBSE already announced dates of exams

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the other pan-India education board, has already announced its schedule for class 10 and 12 board exams.

Exams for CBSE-affiliated schools will take place from 4 May and the results will be announced by July.

Among state boards, only Haryana, Bihar and Maharashtra have released their board exam schedules so far.

  1. Life is only for once, be sure about covid safety measures to reopen classes, I think majority of compact schools can’t take distance precautious, as we hear increase of covid still, not correct time as per my opinion.

  2. The council should atleast postpone exams as the admission took a month , the session began 3 months late as a result , we students are struggling now .

  3. We want online exams for class 9….Please make sure that online exams are being conducted for class 9 and class 11 of all the schools in every state..
As corona is increasing we don’t feel safe to give offline exams …So make sure that online classes are being conducted for class 9 and class 11.
