New Delhi: New Delhi: O.P. Jindal Global University has suspended all students involved in, what it called, a “prank” gone wrong and served them show-cause notices ahead of a disciplinary committee hearing in the matter—scheduled for April-end.
It all began when a video started circulating on microblogging site X, showing a young boy sneaking a wheeled suitcase (strolley) into the boys’ hostel. The video also shows security guards opening the bag. Leaving everyone shocked, a girl emerges from the suitcase.
In a statement shared with ThePrint, the O.P. Jindal Global University said that the students were carrying the girl in the suitcase Saturday when the CCTVs on the university premises captured them, with the guards then noticing their “suspicious activity” on camera.
The situation escalated when the suitcase—presumably overloaded—broke, prompting the girl inside to shout for help. When the guards opened the suitcase, they found the girl.
O.P. Jindal Global University stated that the incident involved a group of students playing a prank in the girls’ hostel, but it continued up to a public area, where security intervened.
“All students involved have been issued show cause notices and will face the disciplinary committee. As India’s leading institution, O.P. Jindal Global University takes student security very seriously, and we have taken effective and immediate action in this matter,” the university statement added.
Speaking to ThePrint, Anjoo Mohun, the communications director at the O.P. Jindal Global University, said, “All students involved have been given show-cause notices and will appear before the disciplinary committee by the end of April.”
She declined to comment when questioned further, calling the incident an internal matter of the university.
The university said the disciplinary action was prompted not only by the nature of the prank but also by its growing concerns about student safety and public perception after the video went viral.
People have been sharing the video on X. One user wrote that the girl was “allegedly smuggled in by a student”.

Earlier, the university was in the news for sus pending two students for “derogatory and provocative statements” after videos of their discussion in the backdrop of the Ram Mandir inauguration went viral on right-wing social media accounts and blogs in February 2024.
