New Delhi: The Delhi Directorate of Education issued fresh guidelines on Thursday advising teachers and students to be more alert as Covid cases saw a spike in recent days.

The DoE asked schools to report Covid infections immediately and shut down whole wings or the school if need be.

The advisory comes a day after Delhi reported 299 fresh infections – a spike of 118 per cent in two days.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Thursday, “We are keeping an eye on the situation. If need be, we will bring in a standard operating procedure for Delhi schools.”

He also said hospitalisation had not increased and there was no need to panic.

The DoE advisory read: “If any Covid case is noticed or reported to the school authority, the same must be intimated to the DoE immediately and the concerned wing of the school or the school as a whole as the case may be, must be closed down for the time being.”

Students, teachers and other school staff have been asked to wear masks at all times. DoE also said social distancing should be maintained, hands regularly washed and disinfected with sanitisers. The department advised schools to renew efforts on awareness.

Schools in the National Capital Region reopened last month for offline classes.

Within two weeks, a teacher and a student in a south Delhi school tested positive.

Schools in Noida and Ghaziabad too reported fresh cases. In Ghaziabad’s Jaipuria School, physical classes were stopped after a Class 10 student tested positive on Wednesday. As of now, the school is conducting online classes.

Ten more children have tested positive for Covid-19 in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Budh Nagar. More than 20 minors were infected this week in the district, officials said Wednesday.
