New Delhi: The Election Commission (EC) of India announced polling schedules for assembly elections of five states on Monday. The states of Rajasthan, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh will go to polls in the month of November.
Polling for state elections will begin on 7 November across the states and the votes will be counted on 3 December as per the released schedule. The EC said the elections in Rajasthan, Mizoram, Telangana and Madhya Pradesh will be held in a single phase whereas Chhattisgarh will have a second phase of voting.
For Mizoram, the candidates list will be out on 13 October and the elections will be held on 7 November.
For Telangana, the candidates list will be released on 30 October with polls due on 30 November, while Rajasthan will go into voting on 23 November.
Chhattisgarh will have dual phase of voting on 7 November and 17 November, the second coinciding with Madhya Pradesh’s polling day.
On Friday, the voting commission convened a meeting of observers to devise a strategy for conducting the elections smoothly. The EC’s police, general, and spending observers met to simplify tactics to ensure Model Code of Conduct implementation and that money does not impact the level playing field.
