New Delhi, Apr 16 (PTI) A worker engaged in cleaning work assigned by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) died after a backhoe loader he was operating lost control and overturned at a site in south Delhi, an official said on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the DMRC, the incident occurred when the operator, employed with contractor K R Anand, was hauling debris at Sunheri Nallah.
The deceased, named Abhishek, reportedly failed to apply the brake in time, following which the machine crossed a cut-out. The front wheel of the loader slipped into the opening, causing the equipment to tilt and leading to the tragedy, it said.
“He sustained injuries in the incident and was immediately rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he later succumbed despite medical attention,” the statement said.
The DMRC said the contractor was carrying out cleaning work at the site when the accident took place.
A detailed inquiry has been initiated into the incident and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings, it said.
The corporation added that all necessary assistance is being extended to the family of the deceased by both the contractor and the DMRC. PTI SHB SHB KSS KSS
