Differently-abled man killed in house fire in Delhi’€™s Paharganj, one injured

New Delhi, Apr 28 (PTI) A differently-abled senior citizen died, and his brother sustained minor burn injuries after a fire broke out at a house in central Delhi’s Paharganj area, police said on Tuesday.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the blaze at 2.40 am and rushed two fire tenders to the spot, a DFS official said A PCR call was also received at 2.45 am, following which police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued three people from the house’s third floor in Chuna Mandi, police said in a statement.

The fire was brought under control by around 3.10 am and was confined to domestic articles inside the house, the DFS official said.

During a search operation, one man was found trapped in a room that was locked from the inside. He had sustained severe burn injuries, police said.

The injured man, identified as Ramesh (60), was taken to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

His brother, Naresh (58), suffered minor burn injuries on his hands during the incident, police said.

Police said a team from the crime department have inspected the spot, and added that further proceedings have been initiated.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, police said. PTI SSJ KSI KSI
