New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Wednesday launched the registration portal for the third edition of Kashi Tamil Sangamam, a 10-day event to be held in Varanasi. The event will be held from 15 February to 24, 2025, a PIB press release stated.
The portal, kashitamil.iitm.ac.in, hosted by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, will accept registrations until 1 February. The event, organized by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, will celebrate the age-old links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. This year, the event will be dedicated to Maharishi Agasthyar.
“Kashi Tamil Sangamam will be a celebration of one of India’s most revered sages — Maharishi Agasthyar. Maharishi Agasthyar’s legacy is deeply woven into India’s cultural and spiritual fabric,” Pradhan said. “His intellectual brilliance is the bedrock of Tamil language and literature as well as our shared values, knowledge traditions and heritage.”
The minister highlighted that this year’s event is particularly significant as it coincides with the Mahakumbh and is the first Sangamam after the “Pran Pratishtha” of Shri Ram Lalla in Ayodhya.
“With Maharishi Agasthyar as the central theme and Mahakumbh and Shri Ayodhya Dham as the backdrop, Kashi Tamil Sangamam 3.0 will offer a divine experience and bring Tamil Nadu and Kashi — the two timeless centers of our civilization and culture — closer than ever,” he said.
The government will bring about 1,000 delegates from Tamil Nadu under five categories: students, teachers, and writers; farmers and artisans; professionals and small entrepreneurs; women; and start-up, innovation, education technology, and research.
The tour will last eight days, including four days of travel. The first group will leave Tamil Nadu on Feb. 13, and the last group will return on Feb. 26.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated Kashi Tamil Sangamam to celebrate the civilizational links between Tamil Nadu and Kashi. The first edition of the event was held in 2022 for a month, and the second edition was held in 2023 for a fortnight. About 4,000 delegates from Tamil Nadu have participated in the event so far.
