New Delhi: Delhi University will receive Rs 272 crore from the Nirbhaya Fund to build a residential accommodation for working women and students pursuing higher education, the Women and Child Development Ministry announced on Thursday.
Of the total amount, Rs 72 crore will be used for the deployment of CCTV surveillance systems across the campus. The residential development will be built in two phases, with 500 rooms in each phase.
The funds will help in the construction of 1,000 beds with enhanced security features and gender-sensitive amenities.
The Women and Child Development Ministry said that this step will be a step towards women’s empowerment.
“This initiative will be actualised in two phases, each comprising 500 well-appointed accommodations. Ultimately, the facility will encompass 1000 beds, supported by a wide range of enhanced security features and gender-sensitive amenities,” the Ministry said in a statement.
